I wrote my worst write-up yet (read). Incomplete ideas and sentences. Just look at this excerpt below—
“If something but never intend to do it.”
Haha, what?
“Then feel good thinking about it.”
Yes ma’am, feel good thinking I is.
Haha, on a serious note though, what I meant to say here was—if you like to just imagine doing something but don’t actually intend to manifest it, then it’s fine to imagine. You don’t want it to be real; you’re not putting off any kind of work. It’s a feel-good mental exercise you enjoy, and that’s okay.
See, arriving at that level of clarity takes time and work, aka editing, which I didn’t spend any time doing. I just dumped my ideas, auto spell-checked, and published.
After reading it, I thought this might piss my readers off how difficult it is to understand in some places. But I also thought y’all are not aware that this is my process. I publish somewhat edited, both GIF/animation and the write-up, and maybe edit more later.
This post-publish edit could be changing sentence structure, changing up the GIF, removing whole paragraphs even. I take the liberty to do whatever I want. And these changes may or may not be noticeable to a re-reader.
But it’s not my concern. My focus is to produce more.
As amateurs, we get stuck editing. We don’t finish and publish enough.
Without completing, we can’t move to the next project. Without doing more projects, we don’t get enough practice. Without practice, we don’t get good at the craft. For instance, we don’t get fast at editing. So, we spend forever editing and take forever to publish, and the cycle continues.
To break the cycle, think “make it exist first and edit later.” Yes, you’ll have pieces like my Amor amor amor, which may or may not have been fixed up by the time this piece goes out. But that’s the point. Make more wonky stuff as an amateur. Not perfect pieces. And share.
Once again—
Make more.
Make wonky stuff
Share more
Not wanting to get beat-up pieces out there is because you’re afraid of what people will think. You have your ego on the line. Fuck that bitch. It’s what’s stopping you from ever pursuing what you like in the first place.
This is only applicable if it’s something you don’t want to keep private. If you like to read books and prefer staying private, that’s one thing. Otherwise figure out what easy-mode-sharing looks like to you and begin sharing from there.
This is my sharing. I like to make these, and I like for you, my reader, to see them. I implore each and every one of you to do the same. With that said, I’d love to see soft copies of your hobbies or projects on the internet—blog, YouTube playlist, IG page, anything you’ve built or are building.
Please DM or leave them in the comments.
Happy creating! ❤️
